FESTOOL CRAFT COMPETITION CALL FOR ENTRY

ABOUT THE EVENT

Attention all master makers, skilled woodworkers, builders and craft legends in the making!

Do you have what it takes to compete in a live build showdown and walk away with up to $10,000 in Festool equipment?

The First-Ever Standalone Festool Authorized Boutique in the nation—located at 15004 Kercheval Avenue, Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan—is calling you to enter the ultimate test of craftsmanship!

Here’s the challenge:

On Saturday, August 23rd, leading up to the Kercheval After 6 event presented by Pointe Hardware Group, selected craftspeople will battle it out in front of a live audience and expert judges—including none other than Brian "Sedge" Sedgeley from Festool himself!

You’ll get 4 hours and one mystery task to build your best work under pressure. Must bring your own tools but access to some of the top Festool products will be available for purchase.

Only one can take the crown.

But don’t worry—there’s glory for all!

We’ve got Grand Prize, Second, and Third place winners—so bring your skills, your creativity, and your grit.

And for the fans?

There’s plenty in store! Try your hand with live Festool tool demos led by the team at Festool USA, and feel the precision, free giveaways and cheer your favorite teams to victory. This event is family-friendly, packed with energy, and guaranteed to be EPIC.

Entry fee is $250 per team. All fees will go towards the event production including material needed to build as well as access to free food and beverages during the event.

MYSTERY TASK

Top “Mystery” Live Build Challenge Ideas we’re considering.

1. Build a Custom Wooden Bench + Table OR Wooden Fire Pit Chair

• Challenge Focus: Joinery, ergonomics, strength, design.

• Why It Works: Easy to judge (comfort, aesthetics, durability), quick to build in 2–4 hours, and highly visual.

2. Design and Construct a Toolbox or Tool Caddy

• Challenge Focus: Precision, utility, portability.

• Why It Works: Compact size keeps time reasonable. It tests layout skills, durability, and functional design.

3. Assemble a Birdhouse with a Twist

• Challenge Focus: Creativity, finishing details, small-scale joinery.

• Why It Works: Quick build, allows for artistic flair, and clear judging on craftsmanship and uniqueness

4. Build a Folding or Collapsible Table

• Challenge Focus: Hinges, moving parts, alignment.

• Why It Works: Adds complexity with function and folding mechanisms; practical but skill-intensive.

5. Create a Wall-Mounted Coat Rack or Shelf

• Challenge Focus: Accurate measurements, mounting integrity, visual design.

• Why It Works: Fast-paced build that still requires precise joinery and design thinking.

6. Make a Step Stool

• Challenge Focus: Structural strength, symmetry, safety.

• Why It Works: Simple format, but it pushes contestants to be precise and sturdy.

Judging Criteria Suggestions:

• Craftsmanship: Smoothness of joints, clean cuts, sanding quality.

• Creativity: Design uniqueness and problem-solving.

• Functionality: Does it work as intended? Is it sturdy?

• Time Management: Completed within the time limit.

• Safety & Tool Use: Proper technique and safe work habits.

AFTER 6 ON KERCHEVAL

After 6 on Kercheval is Grosse Pointe Park’s popular summer street‑festival series held on Kercheval Avenue (between Nottingham and Wayburn). In 2025, it features three Saturday events — on June 28, July 26, and August 23 — each running from 6 PM to 10 PM.

Each event transforms Kercheval into a vibrant block party with:

Live music on two stages (e.g., The KuffLinks, American Ages)

Food trucks & vendor market offering everything from sweets to savory snacks and crafts

Family-friendly attractions, including a super‑slide, gaming trailer, dunk tank fundraiser for Little League

Pre‑event Little Builders Workshop from 5–7 PM at Pointe Hardware & Lumber— early arrivals (5–6 PM) can grab a free hot dog.
